The United Kingdom and Ireland have decided to abandon their bid to host the 2030 World Cup and focus on bidding for Euro 2028. In this way, Spain and Portugal (jointly) will be the only combination in Europe to bid for the 2030 World Cup.

It is reported that the British government has previously studied the feasibility of bidding for the 2030 World Cup, including the economic impact, political situation, football development, and the possible cost of hosting a major international event.

After the research results were obtained, the FA of England, Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Ireland decided to focus on bidding for the 2028 European Cup.

They believe that hosting the European Championships could yield similar returns, but at a much lower cost, and the potential benefits could be realized quickly.
